I don’t know about you but I love Fall! It is definitely my favourite season. The colours are so vibrant! On a clear day the temperature is perfect for a Fall hike! So where can you go to catch some amazing fall colours in or around the Lower Mainland area? Well… pretty much anywhere. I have a few favourites though. Here are my top Fall hikes.

1. Frosty Mountain

The best Fall hike for me is definitely Frosty Mountain during Golden larch season! You can catch the golden larches around the end of September until about mid-late October. It is quite the site to see, especially when the snow hits as well! You get to enjoy 2 seasons at once! So cool! Once you near the summit, you are surrounded by endless mountain peaks. It is truly a magical hike! It is a long trek but worth the adventure. Be sure to stop at the “Bears Den” pub at the Manning Park resort for a delicious meal and victory beverage after!

2. Brandywine Falls

Close to Whistler, BC you can find this amazing waterfall. It is pretty touristy. However, in the fall it is not as busy. The waterfall looks pretty cool with all of the beautiful colours of the leaves surrounding it. It is an easy and short hike to the viewing platforms for Brandywine Falls. This is a great stop on your way into Whistler. You could easily add on another hiking adventure to your day as well since there are many other trails in the area. My suggestion for another adventure nearby would be to check out Brohm Lake Interpretive forest.

3. Lynn Headwaters Park

It was hard for me to choose one hike for this park so I decided to choose 2! Either the Lynn loop or Norvan falls will satisfy your craving for fall colours. Norvan falls actually requires you to take part of the Lynn loop so you could easily combine the two hikes in one day by taking the rest of the Lynn loop on your way back. Both are beginner hikes. Lynn loop is a shorter hike compared to Norvan falls. Both trails travel along side Lynn Creek, which is stunning!

4. Buntzen Lake Loop

Buntzen lake is a really neat park. I remember when I first went there, I thought it was just a place you went to for a lake day. I didn’t realize there was a whole network of trails around it. And how amazing it was for kayaking! It turns out the trail around the whole lake is perfect for a fall day. Tons of colourful leaves and the beautiful lake to enjoy on this trail. If you haven’t checked out the Buntzen Lake Loop or the variety of other trails here yet, then I highly suggest you do!

5. Yellow Aster Butte

Alright so this trail is actually not in BC and not in Canada. However, it’s a short distance across the US border line. And well worth the drive. Depending on where you live in the Lower Mainland, it may only take you an hour to get there! Yellow Aster Butte can be found in the Mount Baker Wilderness area. After being told each year to go check out this hike for my dose of fall colours, I finally checked it out. It definitely did not disappoint! Put this intermediate hike on your list one of these fall seasons for sure! Also, don’t forget to get your park pass online or at the ranger station before hand, as you will not have the option to pay the fee at the trailhead.
