Spring is here and that means it’s time to go chase some beautiful waterfalls. Lucky for us, we have many amazing waterfalls in the Lower Mainland! Although we have many more than just 10, here is my top 10 list below to get you started on your waterfall chasing journey:

1. Kennedy Falls

waterfall at the end of Big Cedar & Kennedy falls trail

Starting in Vancouver, we have Big Cedar & Kennedy Falls. This trail is accessed on Mt. Fromme. It can be a little tricky to find the trail so make sure you do your research before. This hike has the added bonus of checking out a big old cedar tree as well! This hike is rated as intermediate and takes around 4 hours to complete. Check out my blog post for more information on Big Cedar & Kennedy Falls.

2. Swan Falls

Swan Falls at Buntzen Lake in Port Moody, BC

In Port Moody, at Buntzen Lake, you can take a really long adventure via Halvor Lunden to Swan falls (about 10 hours return) OR you can take a shorter adventure by doing the Swan Falls View point trail via Buntzen Lake trail & Halvor Lunden(3.5 hours return). It’s nice to have options! Both options are rated as intermediate hikes and hikers are cautioned to be prepared especially if you plan on doing the full Halvor Lunden loop. Check out my blog for more information about the Swan Falls Viewpoint route.

3. Widgeon Falls

widgeon falls is a water fall that you have to canoe to first and then hike to in Coquitlam, BC

Now here is a really fun adventure! Widgeon Falls in Coquitlam is accessed by first canoeing across Pitt Lake for about 1.5 hours to the trail-head and then taking an easy rated 1 hour hike to the falls. It makes for a really fun day trip or if you like there are campsites too if you want to make it an overnight adventure. If you do not have a canoe or kayak that’s okay! You can rent a canoe, just make sure you get there early so rentals do not sell out. Follow the link for more information about Widgeon Falls.

4. Sawblade Falls

at Pinecone Burke Provincial Park you can hike to Sawblade Falls.

Sawblade Falls is a bit of a tricky one to find but it can be found at Pinecone Burke Provincial park via the Woodland Walks trail. Make sure you have a GPS map available like this AllTrails map as you will not see signs for Sawblade Falls until you are hiking the Upper/Lower Loop trail (off of the Woodland Walks trail). This hike takes around 3.5 hours to complete and is rated as intermediate.

5. Lower Gold Creek Falls

at Golden Ears Provincial park you can hike to this waterfall called "Lower Falls".

Lower Gold Creek Falls is accessed at Golden Ears Provincial park in Maple Ridge via “Lower Falls trail” which is easily found right off of the Gold Creek day use parking lot. This is a short and easy hike that only takes around 1.5 hours to complete. If you wanted to take a different route back it is also possible to hike up to the East canyon trail by the waterfall and head back to the parking lot via East canyon but often people take the same trail back.

6. Upper Gold Creek Falls

you can take the East Canyon trail and hike down to Upper Falls at Golden Ears Provincial Park.

Another beautiful waterfall at Golden Ears Provincial park is Upper Gold Creek Falls. This waterfall is stunning and a little harder to get to as it is not well marked. You can access this waterfall via the East Canyon trail. It is an easier hike with a steeper section at the end. For more details check out my blog post about Golden Ears Canyon Loop.

7. Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls is a short and easy 30 minute hike located in Mission. You get to enjoy it from a beautiful suspension bridge. There is a lot of fun adventures to be had in Mission so if you do not live close to Mission you may want to add another adventure to your day like another waterfall or lake adventure.

8. Rolley Falls

Rolley Falls at Rolley Lake Provincial Park in Mission, BC.

Rolley Falls was a neat little surprise tucked away in Mission at Rolley Lake. If you include the hike around Rolley Lake, it should only take around 2 hours to complete. The trail to the falls does have some ups and downs but generally is pretty easy. For more information check out my post: Rolley Lake and Rolley Falls.

9. Bosumarne Falls

hike to a beautiful waterfall off Chilliwack Lake road called Bosumarne Falls.

Bosumarne falls is a more recently discovered waterfall that is down Chilliwack lake road just past Lindeman lake and before Chilliwack lake. The trail-head begins on the left hand side of the road, you will find a post that has 2017 spray painted on it. Be sure to download this AllTrails map before you head there as it is easy to miss the start of the trail. The hike is beginner level and pretty short so consider adding another hike or a visit to Chilliwack lake after!

10. Bridal Veil Falls

a beautiful waterfall in Agassiz, BC right off of highway 1.

This waterfall just east of Chilliwack is a must see! It only takes about 15 minutes to hike to but it is definitely one of the biggest waterfalls you will find in the Lower Mainland. It is easily found right off of highway 1 at the Agassiz exit. I would suggest adding it to another adventure out east since it is such a short hike.
