Tonight a few of us went up the Quarry Rock trail in Deep Cove, North Vancouver at sunset time. It was a nice warm evening. The perfect evening to view a sunset!
We started the hike just after 7pm and got to the top by 8pm. We hung out at the top to see the sunset for about 50 minutes and then decided to head back down to make sure we got down in time before it was completely dark. For the most part it stayed light out for us enough to not have to use our flashlights. It was a little challenging focusing on the trail near the end but we still chose not to bring out our flashlights. I would recommend having a flashlight handy just in case.
Quarry rock is one of my favorite shorter hikes. It is not too challenging but still offers a good workout. It is kid and dog friendly. The trail is a little slippery in some areas right now as it is very dry in the forest and some of the areas had a lot of loose sand due to this. The trail has a lot of areas that have board walks and stairs which is pretty neat and makes the trail more user friendly. I was a little sad to see the creeks all dried up. There was just one creek closer to the top that had a tiny bit of water trickling down. Usually you can enjoy the sounds of the rushing water down the creeks.
Here is a photo as we arrived to the viewpoint.
I definitely would recommend checking this hike out either first thing in the morning or at sunset time like we did as it is nice to avoid the busy crowded times. Right before we headed back down we actually had the top all to ourselves for a little bit. Very peaceful!
